This is an opportunity for Coalville Ramblers to venture a little further afield than normal to Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield.
A leisurely 5 mile walk to Blackroot and Bracebridge pools through the varied landscape of Sutton Park a National Nature Reserve covering some 3.5 square miles (2,200 acres). Sutton Park is one of the largest public parks in Europe.
An ideal opportunity for car sharing.
Toilets and cafe at the Visitors Centre, Town Gate. Cafe on route too. No stiles or gates
During the walk a small herd of Exmoor ponies can be seen, probably stop here for a short break.
The Park covers heathland, wetlands, marshes, lakes and extensive woodlands.
Sutton Park, a Royal Forest going back to Anglo-Saxon times was given to the people of Sutton Coldfield by Henry VIII in 1528. The park was used during the First World War as a convalescent an POW camp and a transit camp for US troops for D-Day in the Second World War.
In August 1992 the largest Radio 1 Roadshow was held here with over 100,000 attending.
