Overview

Explore the Lomond Hills Regional Park, starting from the picturesque village of Falkland.

This is a moderate walk however there are two steep ascents and descents of West and East Lomond. There are fabulous views from the top of both hills.

This is a car share walk. If you are a driver and are happy to bring your car please contact the leader (Sandra) as soon as possible. The number of walkers will depend on the number of cars. 

If you wish to come on the walk, and are not a driver, you must contact the Leader (Sandra) in advance by email but not more than two weeks in advance. This is from the 15th June.

If you’ve not had a response within a couple of days please check your junk mail.

Walkers should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the Covid virus.

The walk follows the Mapsie Burn up to Mapsie Den then to Craigmead Car Park for a snack. The next stage is the circuit up West Lomond Hill, round and back to the car park for lunch. The final stage, with the option of a short detour to see a limekiln, is up to East Lomond. From there back down to Falkland, where weather, legs and driver permitting some time can be spent exploring the village.

The journey to Falkland is a 120 mile round trip, taking approximately an hour and 20 minutes to reach the village. 

The walk is on good paths, a mixture of gravel, grass and shale. There are some muddy marshy areas, especially if there has been recent rain. There are numerous of steps going up to Mapsie Den and even more coming down from East Lomond Hill.

The ascents and descents are steep.

There are toilets in Falkland (30p), and at Craigmead Car Park.

Please bring plenty food and drink as there will be a number of snack / lunch stops.
