We begin the linear walk from the West Kilbride train station and end at Fairlie train station via Kirktonhall Glen and Fairlie Glen.
The scenic historical route from West Kilbride to Fairlie highlights the beauty of the area with its beautiful glens, golden beaches and on a clear day spectacular views of the islands, plus, of course, the castles themselves: Portencross Castle, Hunterston Castle, Fairlie Castle and Kelburn Castle.
The walk is on a mixed terrain of forest paths which can be muddy in parts, sand and rocky beaches which can be slippy at times, tarmacked paths which can be hard underfoot. There are some gentle inclines in the glens and please note that there are free roaming sheep and cattle on the estates. We do cross one busy road en-route back to Fairlie train station.
Amenities Public toilets at West Kilbride, Seamill Hydro and Kelburn visitor centre.
Option at the end of the walk to go for coffee and cake or light refreshments at Fairlie Inn before heading back to the train station.
