Transport to Walk Start: 10:55 train from Manchester Victoria (final destination Wigan Wallgate)

Meet Point:  Meet at Manchester Victoria train station near the ticket barriers or on the platform. Alternatively, meet on the train or at the walk start at Wigan Wallgate station - please meet outside the station.

Suggested Ticket: Off Peak Day Return to Wigan £7.90.

Walk Start: Wigan Wallgate Railway Station at 11:50

Waypoints: Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Whelley, Haigh Hall Country Park, Marylebone, River Douglas.

Return Services: x:07, x:17/20, x:35/39 & x:49 (x:39 goes to Oxford Road) until 21:07, then 21:39, 21:49, 22:07, 22:34, 22:49, 23:07.

Extra: Toilets at walk start. Possibly none en route as the toilets at Haigh Hall were locked on the leader's last visit. After the walk, those wishing to stay on for refreshments can join us at a pub in Wigan, where we are spoilt for choice for pub stops very close to the station

A walk of in excess of 8 miles on fairly easy and mainly level going with not too much mud expected.  We walk a short distance through the town with a few roads to cross at the beginning and end. The route includes a stretch on the canal towpath before entering into the grounds of Haigh Hall and returning via the path at the side of the River Douglas.
