We will climb up onto Rivington Moor from station.(over 1000 ft of ascent) Opportunity to stop for refreshments at Pike Cottage near the top (tea, soft drinks, snacks etc.) We will then walk to Rivington Pike, descend past The Pigeon Tower and into the grounds and gardens of Rivington Country Park built by Lord Leverhulme (of Lever Bros soap fame) in early 20 th century.
The final stretch is via Rivington village along the side of Rivington Lower Reservoir past Liverpool Castle into Horwich and back to station.
This is not too difficult a walk but there is a significant climb in first half with great views over the reservoirs and towards Bolton from the top. Mainly on good tracks and paths and will be undertaken at a steady pace.
