Early on we pick up the Cleveland Way for a short while, leaving it to follow a forest track with expansive views. We rejoin it at Steeple Cross and emerge onto open moorland, eventually turning to descend to Gallow Hill. A grassy mound with panoramic views across to the Yorkshire Dales provides a pleasant lunch spot. Thereafter, a meandering route on access land through Boltby Forest takes us to High Paradise. It is High Paradise indeed, because a walkers’ café there serves tea, coffee, cakes etc. A final mile then takes us back to Sneck Yate. Much of the walk is on good tracks and starting from the car park at almost 1000 feet above sea level means that there’s less climbing than might be expected. The whole walk is within the North York Moors National Park.
