Parking has been reserved in the field beyond the miniature railway, which is next to the village hall in Pottergate. A suggested donation is £2 per car, which will be collected by Tony and Carys. There may also be some on-street parking available.
The walk starts from the miniature railway. We go back into the village and up the B1363 for a short distance until the footpath sign to Ampleforth Abbey. We then go along Holbeck and up the hill towards the Antony Gormley sculpture. From there we walk through the impressive grounds of Ampleforth Abbey and College and then through the village of Ampleforth, before turning south-east to the Lower Fish Pond in Yearsley Moor. The track goes west towards Low Lion Lodge and up to High Lions Lodge. A short bit of quiet road-walking takes us through the woods of Yearsley Moor, past the invisible(?) Higher Fish Pond, along grassy, tree-lined Avenue, past Gilling Castle (not a castle) and back to the village.
