Overview

Join the York Wednesday Group for a circular walk in Wensleydale from Leyburn.  The walk is along footpaths, farm tracks as well as short sections on usually quiet roads and affords good views across Wensleydale throughout.

Meeting at the Bus Shelter in Leyburn Market Place, we begin walking to the village of Wensley via the Leyburn Old Glebe Nature Resevre.  We will pause briefly in Wensley for a refreshment stop before proceeding along the bank of the River Ure to Lord's Bridge.  After crossing the bridge we head initially along the river bank then up to and through West Wood to Redmire where we will have lunch.  From Redmire we walk to Preston-under-Scar crossing, with care, the Wensleydale Heritage Railway line on the way.  We then proceed up to the western end of Leyburn Shawl.  After a brief refreshment stop we walk along the Shawl back to Leyburn.
