Walking in and around Staines
Welcome to the Staines Ramblers group! You’d be very welcome to join our active and friendly group on one of our varied walks.
On our doorstep in the north west of Surrey we have historic parks with sweeping views and wildlife, as well as slowly winding river paths. We regularly venture further afield to the beautiful Surrey Hills, the rolling Chilterns and, occasionally, into London to explore famous buildings, people and places. We’ll also head out to Hampshire, Sussex, Kent and beyond, in pursuit of a great day out!
We occasionally walk themed trails like the St Swithun’s Way, and the Brenda Parker Way, over a period of months. Our varied walking programme usually offers three walks a week of differing length and terrain, some short and slow, others long and challenging, and everything in between, so there’s bound to be something suitable for you. To make it easier we share cars where we can.
Our walking community
Our friendly walk leaders will take you to niche cafes (cake is a must!), rustic country pubs for a well-deserved pint and lunch, or they’ll choose interesting spots for an al-fresco break - be it a flask of tea or a picnic.
As a Staines Rambler you can join us at coffee mornings, pub nights and occasional evening meals out. In the summer we have a barbecue. We also plan breaks and holidays ranging from a couple of days away, for example Stonehenge and Salisbury, to a week in the Lake District or Wales.
Our Group has also organised walking holidays in places like the Austrian Tyrol, Tenerife and Portugal. Some of our members arrange and join work parties, working closely with Surrey County Council, to help to clear and maintain paths, replace broken gates and stiles, and ensure our network of wonderful footpaths remain available to all.
