We are the Winchester Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
We will leave at 09.30 because the pub needs us back by midday for lunch. This is the first time in a long while the pub has been prepared to take a large group of ramblers. The new managers are keen to try this out, but they need us to do our bit and be flexible to accommodate the kitchen.
The walk is around 5 miles, and we will head off uphill towards Olivers Battery, taking in the lovely views towards Winchester, we will walk towards Silstead and back though Shawford Down. There will be two short stops at approximately 1/3 and 2/3 of the way. Most of the walk is on fairly decent country paths, there are no stiles and it was fine underfoot when we did the pre walk. If the rain means the country paths are too muddy we will have an alternative route.
Please car share if possible and remember to register your car with the pub before you leave to avoid a parking fine. If you are not staying for lunch, there is some parking in nearby roads and a car park near Shawford station.
The pub does not open until 11.00 so we won’t have the use of loos prior to setting off. However, it may be possible to use the loos at the station café and there will be stops on the walk.
