About Us

South Dorset Ramblers organise a variety of guided walks each week:

  • every Wednesday all day from 5 to 12 miles
  • every Saturday all day from 5 to 12 miles
  • every Sunday all day from 5 to 12 miles

The Group also organise other regular activities:

from time to time we arrange a shorter walk in conjunction with the Dorchester Strollers

helping to arrange Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks around the Weymouth - Bristol line during the summer months

walking holidays in other parts of Britain and in Europe

annual Christmas and Midsummer dinners

occasional barn dances, coach outings, skittles and similar social functions

We also have fitness training (although this is not a requirement for our walks)!

The Group aims to promote The Ramblers objectives in our area by monitoring proposed changes to Rights of Way (ROW), checking the state of paths and opposing developments that have a negative impact on the countryside. We check that existing ROW are usable and carry out path clearing where necessary. We also publicise The Ramblers and its work in the area.

Have a browse through our Walks Programme to see just what we have to offer. Click on the title of any walk for full details, including meeting location details and map, any lunch arrangements and Leader contact information. If the walk is suitable for dogs on leads, this will also be mentioned. Then step back using the browser arrow keys to return to this page.

This could be your first step to participating in healthy outdoor exercise, while at the same time meeting new people and making new friends.
