Group name: Swansea
This group is a part of Glamorgan Area.
Our activities include:
Short and easy walks, Path maintenance
Swansea Ramblers helps local people enjoy walking and we protect the places we all love to walk. We have a programme of weekly walks of varying lengths led by local experts – a great way to get outside, make new friends and discover how walking boosts your health and happiness. You’re very welcome to try walking with us, or to get involved in looking after paths and green spaces and opening up new places to explore.
New to walking or like short walks?
If you are new to walking, why not find out what it's all about by coming along on one of our regular Saturday short walks and join the growing number of people who walk with us for the fun and socialising on enjoyable and varied walks.
There's a short and agreeable walk every Saturday and you don't even need to join straight away - just try us out for a few walks. You'll soon realise what fun we all have - and - like many of our new walkers, you'll be amazed to discover places on your doorstep that you never knew existed!
Do you like longer walks?
If you are an experienced walker, then you could try some of our longer Sunday and midweek walks. Many of these explore places like the Brecon Beacons or other challenging hillside and moorland areas.
What do we do after a walk?
We often finish a walk at a local pub where we can continue socialising over a drink and maybe a meal. Some may say that's the best part of the walk!
Our regular social events mean you don't even have to walk to be a member!
We run many well supported social events. Previous outings have included: Italian meals, little quirky family restaurants, boat trips up the river, BBQs, visits to idyllic secret gardens and a Penderyn Whisky distillery tour. Why not come along and enjoy meeting new friends? If you've just moved to the city or for one reason or another you find yourself without friends to go out for a social get together, come along and meet new friends in Swansea Ramblers.
Where do we walk?
We are very fortunate to have on our doorstep the Gower Peninsula which was the first place in Britain to be designated as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' (AONB). It has sandy beaches, limestone cliffs and plenty of country walking.
The group also explores other areas close to Swansea and makes frequent visits further afield, such as Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and other areas in South Wales & beyond. If you'd like to expand your knowledge of your local area, maybe Swansea Ramblers can show you places you've never been before!
But we don't stand still!
We would also like to expand the walks we provide (e.g. additional midweek strolls, evening walks, etc.) so if you become a member of the Ramblers and would like to offer to lead a walk for Swansea Ramblers, please contact us. We'll really love to hear from you!
And we like to record memories of where we've been!
Photographs of many of our previous walks are on our local website so have a look and see who we are and where we go.
And we work with the City & County of Swansea to keep your paths open
Many of our members volunteer their free time to go out and clear footpaths which are overgrown or maybe need new steps or a stile. We discuss with Swansea Council the problems that sometimes affect paths and we work together to ensure the public and our members can walk the paths in Swansea.
But if you can't come out with us at the moment
A free series of Self-Guided Walks are also available on the Swansea Ramblers web site.
Just check us out at our website for more information
