This is a circular walk of approximately 5 hours, viewing 3 fascinating inland Gower caves.
We will start from Southgate car park then walk to Green Cwm Woods and visit Cathole Cave where remains dating back to the Palaeolithic period have been found.
We will then cut through via Lunnon to Ilston Valley and a large cave called Ilston Cwm Cave, which can be seen from the other side of the river, south of the beautiful ancient church.
After a short road section, we will reach Kittle village and Bishopston Valley.
Here we will visit Guzzle Hole cave, so called because of the loud noise the Bishopston stream makes as it descends into caverns underground, only to resurface much lower down the valley.
From here we will make our way back to Southgate car park.
N.B. This walk can be very muddy in wet conditions with some stony difficult paths in parts.
Please note I have included some short sections which we walked previously but we will walk these in reverse.
Social after walk:
Afterwards, we will go for refreshments to the Southgate Club. (15 Southgate Road Southgate SA3 2BT).
Directions: Take B4436 Mayals Road from Blackpill to Pennard.
Drive along Southgate Road to car park off the roundabout.
