This is a linear walk by public transport, from Aston station to Erdington station on the Cross City line. The trains for today look ok. Weather not exciting but not snow so we'll be there.
The walk goes along the canal, under Spaghetti Junction, and then past Brookvale Park Lake and Witton Lakes. We were planning to go round Aston Reservoir as well, but that made the walk 5.6 miles, so we're leaving out that loop.
Lots of bird life on the lakes. An urban walk, so paved paths, little mud (but quite a bit of fly tipping). Although it's mostly away from roads, there are a number of roads to cross, mostly at crossings but a couple more difficult. No stiles, no steep hills (143 ft elevation) though a few steep canal bridges.
There is a new Eco Hub on Witton Lakes (after the tea break), where we may be able to use the toilet if needed.
Let's hope for better weather than the low cloud/drizzle on Tuesday 10th when we did the recce.
Let us know if you are delayed but want to join the walk - we will be dependent on the train service of course.
We will be getting the 9.48 from Kings Norton station, getting to Aston at 10.13. If you have to pay, get a return to Erdington if coming from the south, to Aston if coming from the north. There may be some on-street parking in the area, but not much, and not a good area to leave a car!
