A lovely walk through the beech woods of the North Downs with nice views. The walk starts with a memorial to bishop Samuel ("soapy Sam") Wilberforce (son of abolitionist William) who fell off is horse here in 1873. The walk up White Down near the start of the walk is very steep but the path is good. Once on the North Downs the going is easier. We wander through Old Simms Copse and then down Beggers Lane to Piney Copse which was once owned by E. M. Forster, paid for by "A Passage to India". Finally we walk through the woods of the Abinger Roughs back to the car park.
