This 10.5 mile walk offers a variety of terrain: river, South Downs, woods and the spectacular Lancing College Chapel, ending with the option of a post-walk drink at the Red Lion Pub.
The walk follows the Adur River, stopping for morning tea (or ice cream if the little kiosk is open) at the Saxon St Botolph’s church. It then joins the South Downs Way, up Annington Hill, past Steyning Bowl. We will have a picnic lunch before ascending Steep Down, then walk through a bit of the Lancing Ring Nature Reserve and down towards Lancing College. We will detour into Lancing College to have a look in the Chapel then make our way back to the Red Lion Pub.
Please bring a picnic lunch and note that there are no toilets on the walk. Difficulty is moderate, with some hills. Steep Down is, as the name suggests, steep, but the ascent is quite short.
We will meet on the Downs’ Link Path across the A283 from the Red Lion Pub in Shoreham. The starting point is about a 20 minute walk from Shoreham train station.
The 9.38am train from Brighton will get you there in good time. Otherwise there is adequate street parking nearby.
If you can, please RSVP to this walk via our Meetup site. This will give the walk leader a rough idea of how many people may be attending. If you are a paid up member of the Ramblers organisation, you can ignore any waitlist you may find yourself on.
We don't ask you to pay to join us on your first three walks. Afterwards, in order to continue walking with our group, you must become a paid-up member of the Ramblers. Click here (https://www.ramblers.org.uk/membership) to apply. The cost is very reasonable and there are also other benefits. Please then bring your membership card with you.
