This is a wonderful 13.6 mile walk starting from Aldington, that takes in some of the higher ground overlooking & bordering the Romney Marsh, a stretch of the Napoleonic built Royal Military Canal Path, as well as fields and woodland tracks on this diverse circuit.
Earlier on we pass Aldington Church, before descending through Aldington Knoll to soon reach the canal path, which accompanies us all the way to Hamstreet. We then turn northwards into the village, where there will be a lunch stop at the Recreation Ground.
After lunch, the route follows both the Saxon Shore Way & Greensand Way through Hamstreet Woods National Nature Reserve. The two long distance paths separate once through the woods, but we continue along the former, heading through Priory Wood & Park Wood above Bilsington to eventually return to Aldington on completion of the walk.
Post walk, the Walnut Tree in Aldington is useful for those in need of refreshment.
