Overview

From Simonburn (a location for a TV mini-series based on Catherine Cookson's novels) our route takes us south and across farmland via Uppertown and Teppermoor to Brocolitia. From here we follow a restricted byway to Stooprigg before crossing Simonburn Common towards Great Lonbrough. This section is mainly grassy moorland with some wetter areas. We return on good tracks over Ravensheugh Crags to Goatstones and then into Simonburn via Castle Lane.

Plenty of lovely Spring views accompanied by the songs of curlews, lapwings and skylarks on the pre walk - see photos!

Please meet at Simonburn village green (in front of the 13th century St. Mungo's Church). There is a small car park in Simonburn, but please park considerately around the village if this is full. Car sharing is advised especially because of limited parking space. We try to offer an informal share from Hexham - please contact the walk leader if you are interested (driver or passenger).
