Level 9 mile walk with the natural beauty of  Almondell Country Park and the industrial history of the W Lothian Shale Trail and Union Canal, crossing  a dramatic viaduct and aqueduct spanning the River Almond valley.

Starts from the Almondell Country Park South car park along the tree and bush lined East Calder/Uphall Station path (part of the Shale Trail), turns east along the path then minor road past Roman Camp Cottages, Lookabootye and Muirend to a short stretch of the Union Canal over the towering aqueduct.  Leave the canal onto the path along the river valley leading back to the Country Park Visitor Centre.
