Overview

A South Tyne valley walk incorporating the Pennine Way and hopefully providing extensive views!

From Alston we follow the eastern side of the River Tyne north through woods and fields via Randalholm and Low Row to Williamston where we cross the river. Here we pick up the Pennine Way and follow this south via Kirkhaugh and Epiacum Roman fort (Whitley Castle) to Alston.

Riverside lunch-stop and refreshments afterwards at Wooly's station cafe.

Parking is available at the station in Alston (gates should close at 5pm on Sunday). The station is signposted on your right as you enter Alston from Hexham on the A686. Car sharing is recommended and we try to offer an informal share from the Wentworth car park in Hexham. Please contact the walk leader if you are interested (driver or passenger). Toilets are available on the station platform next to the entrance to the cafe.
