We begin at the handsome Georgian seafront of Beaumaris, with its views across the Menai Strait to the mountains of Snowdonia, before heading along the crumbling glacial cliffs of Fryars Bay, a tidal section that feels genuinely wild and a little adventurous. Rounding the eastern tip of the island, we pass the ancient ruins of Penmon Priory and its curious dovecote, with Puffin Island sitting just offshore, before picking up the coast path proper through the dramatic headland landscape of Fedw Fawr.
The route then winds through a varied mix of clifftop paths, quiet lanes and farmland, with sweeping views out to sea and down towards Red Wharf Bay; one of the most beautiful bays on the island. We descend to finish at Llandona Beach, with the vast tidal sands stretching away to the west.
This is a section of real contrasts — historic, dramatic and peaceful all at once — and a wonderful introduction to the eastern coast of Anglesey.
