As we have not walked around Bradgate for a while, join me on this circular walk around the park and surrounding area for around 8 miles of some of Leicestershire's finest countryside. The park boasts the ruins of Lady Jane Grey, the historic folly of Old John, the meandering River Lyn and on a good day Peacocks in full bloom, along with the many deer that roam freely throughout the park. Swithland Wood on the doorstep of the park is another area of diverse woodland, old quarries and many footpaths. There is one good climb up to Old John.
Toilets and cafe in the park
Mainly parkland with no stiles
Dog friendly, but certain areas of the park require dogs to be on a lead.
Bradgate Park is one of Leicestershire's finest Country Parks left to the people of Leicestershire for all time. Lady Jane Grey, the 6 day queen lived there for a short period of time. The Old John Tower was used a a viewing tower for a race track that used to go around the park. Many old spinneys are scattered around the park with some trees up to 800 years old.
