Overview

Join us on this walk in an area of outstanding natural beauty! We start from Ashford-in-the-Water (famous for the quarrying of Ashford Black Marble) and proceed up Pennyunk Lane to iconic Monsal Head. The views as we ascend are spectacular, weather-permitting. Longstone Edge, which is a limestone ridge reaching around 400 metres above sea level  is particularly noteworthy. From Monsal Head we walk past the unusual Grade 2 Congegrational Chapel, through Little Longstone and then head towards Great Longstone. A meander through the village includes the Church of St Giles before we reach the Monsal Trail, pass what was once the station ‚Great Longstone for Ashford‘. and descend back to Ashford. There will be two stops en route for refreshments. There are 2 pubs and a tea room in the village for post-walk refreshments!
