Overview

The walk starts from the large sculpture, Monarch of Auchmountain Glen, by George Wylie. The route follows a well reconstructed path through the ‘’fairy glen’’ which has been recognised in the Scottish Walking Awards as ‘The Most Improved Walking Place’ in Scotland. The path ascends 15 staircases and crosses 8 bridges, always following the Cartsburn, as it cascades over spectacular waterfalls and through beautiful natural scenery. One last staircase and we are out of The Glen onto a grass path to Whinhill Reservoir. Round the reservoir, we are briefly on the golf course, before heading up towards Craigieknowe Burn. At the Water Shaft, the track is left behind and we follow a faint path up through the moors to a well-defined - though boggy in places - farm track. Easy going now to the style at the base of Corlick Hill, 994.09 feet. Would suggest we leave backpacks here, climb the hill, and return for lunch. The way back follows our outward route in reverse and allows appreciation of the spectacular views (weather permitting).
