As we leave the village of East Ayton, we pass the ruined remains of Ayton Castle 🏰, and then follow the boardwalk through Forge Valley nature reserve, and up into Raincliffe Woods.
Lunch will be at the picnic spot by Throxenby Mere, but don't worry, the ducks 🦆 are well behaved and won't try to steal your sandwiches. After lunch, it's a steep climb up to Row Brow, and then return to the start on easy paths with a gentle, gradual descent offering great views across to The Wolds.
After the walk, we'll head to the Denison Arms for a drink 🍺.
⚠️ There are a couple of steep climbs – a short one of about 30m ascent, and a longer one of about 100m ascent – these are likely to be muddy, so you may wish to bring poles if you have them. (You shouldn't need poles so it's not a problem if you don't have any, we didn't take any on the recce and we were fine, but they'll make it a bit easier!)
🚌 East Yorkshire bus 128 from Scarborough station at 0940 to East Ayton at 0958 – return buses from East Ayton at 1450 and 1550 – see http://getdown.org.uk/b/128 for the timetable.
