The walk starts from Wigginton duck pond and heads out to Moorlands Nature Reserve via farmland and quiet country lanes. Moorlands is a former Edwardian woodland garden where hopefully the rhododendrons and azaleas will still be in flower (although this is not guaranteed!). After leaving the nature reserve we continue our circuit before skirting the edge of York City Football Club's training ground on our way back towards Wigginton.
🐶 Unfortunately, this walk is not suitable for dogs, as we pass through a nature reserve where dogs are not allowed.
🅿️ On-street parking is available on Westfield Lane (opposite school playing field) or on neighbouring streets such as Greenshaw Drive and Walmer Carr. Please park with consideration for local residents.
🚌 You can get to Haxby and Wigginton from York using the number 1 or 13/14 bus services. The number 1 route terminates near Wigginton Pond and the 13/14 route has stops in the centre of Haxby (about half a mile down the road).
🍺 After the walk we can head to the nearby Black Horse (or another pub in the village) for refreshments.
