This walk is a bit longer than our usual walks at approx. 8 miles long, so we're going to break it up with a half-way stop in Watton-at-Stone for refreshments. The walk takes us through woodlands, along rolling fields, and through a couple of picturesque Hertfordshire villages. Although the walk is early in October, we may already see some of the glorious autumn colours when walking through the woodlands.
The first part of the walk is easy walking mostly on well-made bridlepaths, farm tracks, and country lanes. The return leg from Watton is mostly on good footpaths and includes a few short yet relatively (for Herts/Essex) steep ascents. There are no stiles along the route.
Please note that no pub lunch has been arranged by the walk leader. However, Ramblers will have the option of having a late pub lunch at The Plume of Feathers pub at Tewin, a short drive away. [Note: The Grandison pub at Bramfield is next to our meeting point, but it is rather pricey and stops serving lunch at 2.30 p.m.]
