This figure of 8 walk blends town and country together with the industrial heritage of Halstead.
The morning walk takes us through the gants of Halstead, past the deconsecrated church, walking close to Spansey wood and through Brook's Wood to the village of Gosfield. The return journey skirts the nature reserve and after a short road walk takes us across the fields back to our start point. This section of the walk is about 7 miles.
There are numerous cafes and pubs for refreshments, or you can picnic in the beautiful public gardens, before those who wish to can continue their walk to Greensted Green and back, passing the former residence of RA Butler, famous for the 1944 Education Act. This is about 4 miles and returns us to the Car Park in Butler Road which is our starting point.
