A good stroll along well marked tracks from Broad Chalke village along the ridge of Compton Down with views south, and north from Chiselbury hill fort, before a sharp descent past the Fovant Badges, then a gentle climb for a view of the badges from the north. There is a more strenuous, but short, climb onto Fovant Down, followed by a gentle descent over the last 3 miles back to the start.
The ground is generally good with no styles. Boots for ankle support are recommended, and walking sticks would benefit some on the steeper descents and climbs, especially if the path is slippy from rain. Bring a packed lunch, and a wind proof jacket.
