This walk was inspired by a visit to a new woodland trust site based around Brynau Farm. After climbing to the farm from the Gnoll Estate Country Park the walk continues across open fields with, hopefully, excellent views. Then it follows a quiet road to a reservoir before using various tracks to reach the Neath Canal. After about half an hour walking along the towpath, between canal and river, Neath castle is reached. After a brief visit to the town and a stop in an attractive garden for lunch the walk climbs back towards Brynau through a wooded cwm with waterfalls before returning to the Gnoll estate.
There are two main climbs of 180 and 145 metres and one stile.
There is one muddy section and one path that was slightly overgrown. The towpath is tarmac. If the weather is poor then an alternative local walk will be offered from the leisure centre.
