Overview

This will be a circular walk from Wendover Station via Combe Hill, Pulpit Hill, Chequers Estate, Little and Great Kimble returning to Wendover.

The walk covers the chalk hills of the northern Chilterns and a stretch along the Vale of Aylesbury.

Normally this is a moderate walk although due to the present damp conditions it should be regarded as strenuous.

The first part of the walk is hilly with an initial long uphill climb to Combe Hill with good views across the Vale of Aylesbury.  It may be damp, muddy and slippery so do wear boots and bring walking poles if required.  There are a few traditional styles (4-6) in the second part of the walk.   Also a single track railway to cross carefully.

Buy a return rail ticket from London Marylebone to Wendover.  Note:  On Saturday 21st February there are interruptions to the rail service which means changing at Beaconsfield for a bus replacement service to Wendover and also on the return journey.

The walk will start at 10:00 am from Wendover Station.  Initially meet at London Marylebone for the 08:37 train to Wendover (changing at Beaconsfield), arriving at 09:55.  There are toilets at Marylebone on the train and at Wendover Station.

There is a drop out point at Little Kimble.  This is on a different rail line so separate tickets may be required.  Trains from Little Kimble to London Marylebone are 42 minutes past the hour taking 1 hour with a change at High Wycombe.

The walk will end at Wendover.  Return train times are at 57 minutes past the hour taking about 1 hour 20 minutes.

Lunch will be at the village of Little Kimble.  Picnics can be eaten nearby the pub but seating is limited.  For those requiring a pub lunch there is The Swan pub, link with menu provided.   Please let me known by Wednesday 18th if you would like a table booking.

Do let me know if you intend to join this walk by using the email link.  This gives me an indication of the number wishing to attend.
