Overview

A short evening walk from Stow-on-the-Wold to see the Coronation Meadow near Hyde Mill with its abundance of wild flowers - late June should see the display near its best.

Thursday, 26 June 2025
Start time:
6:00 pm
Estimated finish time:
9:00 pm
Difficulty:
Moderate
Distance:
7.4km / 4.6mi
Ascent:
138m / 453ft
Type:
circular

The walk will take us down past Nether Swell Manor on the Gloucestershire Way with lovely views across the Dikler valley before we cross the river at Hyde Mill to reach the meadow. The return goes upstream along the valley to Lower Swell and on through the Abbotswood estate towards Upper Swell on the Heart of England Way before we climb (inevitably!) back to Stow-on-the Wold again on a stretch of the Gloucestershire Way.

We will spend some time in the meadow, strolling along the paths that have been cut to allow visitors to enjoy the abundant flora before we continue to Lower Swell for a picnic - hopefully by the church but in the bus shelter if wet.
