It now seems likely that the engineering work at Stockport will overrun and trains on the Buxton line will still face disruption on this date. Please check back later for possible details of an alternative walk.

Meeting time & place: 

08.40 at Manchester Piccadilly station to catch the 08.50 train to Buxton. The leader will join the train at Whaley Bridge (due 09.32).

Start time & place: 

09.53 at Buxton station when the train from Manchester is due to arrive.

Estimated finish time & place: 

17:00 at Whaley Bridge station.

22.4km / 14.0mi

Ascent: 

1700 feet

Train ticket - return to Buxton. If you have a GM concessionary travel card you can get the return from Middlewood to Buxton.

Note: walkers are advised to check one of the rail websites such as nationalrail or trainline close to the departure time in case of late changes to the running of the train. These are unfortunately very common on Sundays.

Car parking available in Buxton or free in Whaley Bridge.

Walk route - Buxton station, Pooles Cavern, Grin Low, Axe Edge Moor, Derbyshire Bridge, Shining Tor, Cats Tor, Pym Chair, Windgather Rocks, Taxal Edge, Whaley Bridge station.

Expected time into Whaley Bridge - no later than 17.00. Trains back to Manchester from Whaley Bridge are due at 17.13 and 18.12.
