Starting from the attractive village of Gargunnock, our route climbs the escarpment of the Gargunnock Hills to reach the high point of Carleatheran Hill (a sub-2000 Marilyn) with views over Flanders Moss to the mountains beyond. We return on a more southerly route across the wild expanse of Touch Muir.
Terrain: A mix of farm tracks and moorland paths, with some pathless boggy sections on the plateau. After an initial steep ascent, the path levels out with a series of undulations until the final relatively steep descent to the start.
High-level walk.....good, all-weather walking gear required.
Muddy & rough in places......strong walking boots required.
If livestock are encountered, walk quietly, avoiding contact.
Road walking.....exercise care, walk in single file.
