A very pleasant 6mile/10km circular in the North Esk Valley, south-east of the Pentland Hills.
Starting from the car park, we will head off towards Carlops Bridge to pick up the trail, passing the waterfall and following along the North Esk River before crossing the small bridge and heading back up onto the farm track. We will continue along the main track before making our way uphill to Fairliehope Hill (465m) where we will have a short pit stop. Then heading off again continuing over to the summit of The Mount (538m), and following the fenceline over onto Wether Law (519m) before descending downhill for our lunch stop on the banks of the North Esk Reservoir. On our return we will head back uphill to continue over Patie’s Hill (500m), then downhill to return to Carlops Bridge and back to the car park.
Note: We will keep an easy steady pace on hillside. The route is on undulating paths and grassland, but could be muddy and boggy in places.
There is an option, if any wishes, to stop off for refreshment and cake before heading back home. The Steading, bar and restaurant is located beneath the artificial ski slope (Hillend) on Biggar Road just before turning down the slip road onto the A720 Edinburgh city bypass.
