The final section of the summer's long-distance walk is the Centenary Way from Ganton to Filey Brigg.
As this is a linear walk, we will meet at the end of the walk, which is on the grassed area at the far end of the cliff top car park near to the monument at the end of the Centenary Way route (see dropped pin link above). We will leave the minimum number of cars here and head to the layby outside the Greyhound in Ganton, next to the A64 from where we will start the walk.
This 13 mile walk will include a short but fairly steep ascent sometime before lunch, which we will take steady. For the most part of the walk, these are gently rolling hills and it's more or less flat towards the end as we walk around Filey and the seafront, where we will stop for ice cream or chips, before the final short ascent to Filey Brigg.
The walk provides great views of the Wolds and Filey Bay, plus the RAF radar station at Staxton Wold.
🅿️ Parking is free in the layby at Ganton by The Greyhound, but it is £10.80 for 24 hours at Filey Brigg, so we will try to minimise the number of cars left at the Brigg (don't buy your parking ticket until we know which cars we are leaving). We ask everyone to contribute towards the parking charges for the cars we leave at Filey. We will meet in our cars at the end point on the grassed cliff-top area (beyond the café and loos – drive past the gravel car park)
🚻 There are (pay) toilets at Filey Brigg car park near the meeting point, and toilets on Filey seafront near the end of the walk
🚌 If you're coming without a car, you can get the Coastliner 843 bus from Malton or Scarborough to Ganton, but please let us know in advance so we have capacity to give you a lift back!
🐶 Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead. If you are bringing a dog, please arrange beforehand with someone else who is happy to take your dog in their car to the start of the walk
🍦 We will be having an ice cream on the seafront in Filey, but we may be able to arrange to meet up after completing the climb to Filey Brigg.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch with you for mid way through the walk.
