West Mendip Walkers moderate 10.5 mile walk starting from the village hall in Chapmanslade. We immediately walk in woods entering onto the large open fields so typical of Wiltshire, bypassing Norridge Wood to walk part of the mid Wilts Way to Cley Hill. Cley Hill is the first climb of the walk and is a steep climb but the views from the top are wide ranging and worth the effort. After Cley Hill the terrain becomes more undulating as we walk into Longleat Forest where it may be muddy, emerging into the hamlet of Longhedge. We stop for lunch in this general area before continuing to the village of Corsley Heath. There is more open field walking to Corsley where we start to have steeper climbs through woods through housing in places back to our starting point. There is some quiet road walking, but the walk remains dog friendly with no livestock expected, other than pheasants. There are some wooden up and over stiles but most are metal gated.
