West Mendip Walkers 10 mile moderate walk from Montacute village. We walk west and climb steeply up to St Michael's Hill to the site of the former Montacute Castle and Priory, which was built shortly after the Norman Conquest. The site is now marked by the folly of The Prospect Tower which was built in 1760. We then walk around Ham Hill Country Park and pause under the War Memorial whilst looking down on the village of Stoke Sub Hamdon and northwards to the Mendip Hills. Further on we'll pass through the site of Tinkers Bubble and its complex of rustic barns. We may be treated to an description of their activities. From here we walk south through woodland and open countryside, skirting Chiselborough Village to our right, before turning east across farmland to East Chinnock. From here we walk northwards along drovers trails back to Montacute Park and the start. The route is dog friendly with a few stiles. Post walk refreshment info will follow in due course.
