This ramble passes over the Mendips, before descending into Velvet Bottom Nature Reserve and past Black Rock. There is a steep rocky ascent up on to the top of the gorge with magnificent views. The terrain is very rocky and uneven along this area. We then make the descent down the 274 steps of Jacobs Ladder into Cheddar, before returning to the cars via part of the Mendips. Please bring a lunch.
For those members who are happy to car share, we meet first at the Bath Road car park in Chippenham. (“Pay and Display”). Lifts are suggested at £5.00. Contact walk leader Pamela to reserve your place on this walk and to tell her if you are going direct or require car share.
The starting point for the walk is Burrington Ham Car Park. (Free parking). NOTE THE LATER START TIME of 10:15 as car park does not open until 10am. O/S Explorer 141.
