This is the longest walk offered in this year's 'Mince-Pie' walks, at 10-11 miles. We need start at 09.15, earlier than others, so that we can return in time to be sociable - and ensure that there are mince pies left! We'll take two short breaks to eat, so bring food and drink, but we'll aim to return by 2.30pm at the latest so will need to keep up a reasonable pace.
Radyr Golf Club has parking space and is also only 10 minutes walk from Radyr train station. We'll start from, and return, there and progress along the side of the Golf course, across the fields and M4 beyond, up to Pentyrch and then (weather-permitting) up and over the Garth. We'll descend on the steep and often muddy path to the top of the 'Baubles trail' that has become so popular in recent years, which we will then descend. We'll then descend further into George Town, cross the road and ascend up through the glorious Garth woods, full of Beech trees in their Winter glory.
The final part of the return to the golf club will be the route we followed earlier, in reverse (so that the walk is a lollipop shape).
Please come prepared for all weathers, bring food and drink, and expect to walk briskly.
Please bring In Case of Emergency information.
Don't forget to pre-book and pay £7.50 to Cardiff Ramblers for your post-walk refreshments
