PLEASE REMEMBER BUS PASSES.
This is a grade C walk on pavements, paths, and tracks. Distance approx 4 miles.
Time for the walk around 4 hours.
We will all get the local bus to the beginning of the walk at Glasgow's west end. This is a linear walk through Dowanhill to the Botanical gardens where we will have our single stop for lunch. From there we follow the river Kelvin to Kelvingrove Art Galleries. Where we can get the bus back into the city centre.
There are many points of interest on this walk including the architecture and history of the Dowanhill area. There is also a fine example of a gothic church which is modelled on St Chappelle in Paris. We have been granted access for our group to see the interior and some of the best examples of stain glass in Glasgow. During our lunch break anyone who wishes will have a chance to visit the Botanics hot houses. Toilets are available here. The second half of our walk takes us along the river Kelvin passing a number of fine bridges before we reach our final destination at Kelvingrove Art Galleries. The walk finishes here but first we will visit the painting called 'Windows in the West' which was painted in Dowanhill.
Our plan from here is to take a bus into the city centre and go for a refreshment, anyone is welcome to join us. If not you can stay on to explore the Art Galleries or do some Christmas shopping in the city.
Care has to be taken during this walk as the pavements are very uneven and there are some elevations and downhill slopes.
Stout footwear is sufficient.
