Our walk takes a clockwise route, passing mainly through a landscape of woodlands and fields. In the morning, after pausing at Wotton Church, the route passes through areas of the Wotton Estate, once owned by the Evelyn family (incl. John Evelyn, horticulturist, garden designer and diarist, 1620 - 1702). Following footpaths south to Broadmoor, near headwaters of the River Tillingbourne, we then take a westerly route to reach the mill pond at Friday Street and onward to Abinger Common, our lunch stop. (pub drinks and toilets available.)
After lunch we continue across open farmland on a westerly, north westerly course, with views of the North Downs. Our walk concludes by following woodland paths across Broomy Downs and Abinger Roughs (National Trust).
A moderate undulating route with two busy road-crossing points, one at Wotton and one near Abinger Hammer. Much of the route is on free-draining greensand, however expect some parts of the route to be muddy and wet.
