Overview

Our walk today starts at the car park next to Rykas and then we will walk up to the Zigzag Road to start our walk up Box Hill.  This route is a slightly kinder accent than some alternatives.  We will have a short stop at the National Trust centre (cafes/toilets) and then head to Salomans Memorial and the Viewpoint. We then head east for a while to find our path which will take us down the southern slopes of Box Hill to Boxhurst and then across to the steps and down to Burford Meadows via the footbridge and back to Rykas for a picnic lunch.  The afternoon offers a short stop at the Stepping Stones pub for a drink before heading to footpaths above Denbies and Dorking Wood before returning via Westhumble to our start point.

While this is a hilly walk our pace will be moderate.  If the weather is clear then we should have some splendid views in the morning and the afternoon.  Sticks are recommended.  It is potentially a figure of 8 walk but it is difficult to say the afternoon departure time and my best guess would be 1.30 to 2.00 pm so it is best to call the leader after 12.30 pm on the day for a better idea.  The morning/afternoon distance split is approximately 3.25 / 5.8 miles.  If the car park is full, first check the overflow car park and then park on Old London Road.
