NOTE: Please check the website by Monday evening to see if the walk is still happening. It may be too wet underfoot in the area after Storm Claudia - I’m going to check a couple of bits of the route on Monday and will then make a decision.
A pleasant walk following the Trans Pennine Trail, quiet roads and country paths to New Brimington then back into Chesterfield along the canal.
Catch the 10:00 (London) train arriving in Chesterfield at 10:12. An off-peak day return ticket costs £5.44 with a senior rail card. From Chesterfield station we'll head up over the golf course, past Tapton Grange and the small fishing pond, then over fields to New Brimington and on to Chesterfield Canal, which we'll follow back to the station.
The walk is mainly on good paths, with one possible muddy bit, and some road walking through New Brimington. There are some ups and downs in the first half before we reach the canal (561ft total ascent). On the included map, the route is indicated by the red line with arrows on it.
There are WCs at Sheffield and Chesterfield stations and Tapton Lock Visitor Centre.
Please contact the leader in advance if you have not walked with the group before.
No dogs please.
