The fifth section of the Cleveland Way will take us along the coast from Runswick Bay to Saltburn.
Similar to other sections of this coastal walk, the route is typically undulating with narrow paths in places, but nothing too strenuous. The views along the coastline are spectacular and we pass through several picturesque villages.
After Runswick Bay, we pass close to Port Mulgrave then on to the pretty village of Staithes. There is a steep paved hill at Cowbar Bank as we come out of Staithes. After lunch, we continue on past Boulby mine along the clifftops via the sand dunes on Skinningrove beach before arriving at Saltburn.
If the weather continues to be warm then we will take the walk at a steady pace, so there is a good chance that it could be 5–6pm before we arrive in Saltburn.
🅿️ If you are coming by car, meet at Cat Nab car park in Saltburn (£10 all day) by 10:10, ready to catch the X4 bus to Runswick Bay at 10:25 (£3 single) – please allow time to park, pay and get your boots on.
Alternatively, you can park at Runswick Bay Bank Top car park by 11:00 and meet us when we get off the bus, and then catch the bus back to your car after the walk. We recommend using the council car park at the end of the lane and not the privately run car park you come to first.
🚌 If you are coming by bus, catch the X4 from Middlesbrough at 09:35 or from Whitby at 10:34 to Runswick Bay – return buses run regularly through the afternoon and evening
🐶 Dogs are welcome on this walk, but given the sometimes narrow paths and clifftops we request that they are kept on a lead
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch
🚻 Public toilets by the car park at Saltburn, and on the walk at Staithes
🍺 After the walk, we can go for a drink and maybe food at The Ship in Saltburn
