This is a charming, if slightly shorter than usual, walk from the new village hall in Clothall to Wallington and back. The outward leg more or less follows a stretch of the Hertfordshire Way past Clothall Bury and deviating to take in the spring at the head of Cat Ditch. There will be a coffee stop in Wallington at a spring next to the church. We return along the Icknield Way trail which has great views northwards .
There is a variety of landscapes with woods and downland. The route goes close to Redhill, which lies just to the east of the Cat Ditch spring, and has some interesting geography.
We led this walk last autumn with a very select group of walkers braving some poor weather. It deserves a revisit in clement summer weather.
After the walk, those in need of refreshment can join us at Mill End Nurseries for coffee and cake.
