A brisk walk combining lovely stretches of the Thames Path with open farmland, a rise along a wooded escarpment, and visiting the pretty village of Cookham in the middle and end of the walk, as we take a figure of eight route.
We first head from the station south towards Widbrook Common before returning to the village along the river, making a 5 mile morning loop.
After a picnic lunch on the edge of the village where you can get a drink, the next 7 mile clockwise loop heads out to Winter Hill and in the direction of Marlow, before returning back along the river by Cock Marsh.
You can then either stop in Cookham for a drink or head directly to the station.
Travel: Take the 09.48 train from Paddington to Maidenhead arriving 10.26 and connect with the 10.33 train to Cookham from Platform 5. (Over 60 Oystercard holders need to buy a return from West Drayton). Return trains from Cookham are half hourly.
Use the toilets before changing trains at Maidenhead. Otherwise you will need to wait until we are in the village at lunch or towards the end of the walk.
No dogs please as there may be livestock nearby.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and depends of the size of the group, its speed and the number of breaks taken.
