We will start at Kentish Town Underground Station and head south to Battersea Power Station. This is an urban walk with mainly paved routes on pavements, canals, the Thames and across parks. The first park to be crossed is Primrose hill with a climb to the top for the view, then down to Regent's Park past the zoo, and on to Baker Street. Onwards to Marble Arch, Hyde Park and down to the Serpentine, where we will have lunch.
Please bring a picnic, although there are numerous shops and cafes along the way, we will not have time to stop at them. There is a cafe at the Serpentine Lido, but the food is expensive.
Then past Buckingham Palace, St James's Park and depending on any protest marches and crowds across Whitehall, to cross to the South Bank of the Thames. Finally to the Battersea Power station.
At the time of the recce there were huge crowds in central London particularly on Westminster Bridge.
Kentish Town has Overground (St Albans line - Sutton Thameslink) but not frequent on a Sunday morning and on the day of the recce several trains were cancelled due to lack of staff. There is also a Kentish Town West Station on the Mildmay Line (Clapham Junction to Stratford) which is 7 minutes walk from Kentish Town Underground station.
Multiple exit points
Suggested route to station by bus or Northern Line Barnet branch.
Toilets available along the way.
There is a pub by the power station at the end of the walk and numerous cafes and restaurants at the Power Station.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
