A winter walk with an urban start, following a section of the London Green Way.
We start at Colliers Wood Underground Station crossing the clear chalk stream of the River Wandle, one of the country's ecological treasures, towards Wimbledon... 'Expensive, snooty and culturally moribund' as described by Ed Glinert. Here the path takes us to Cannizaro Park and the plateau of Wimbledon Common.
From here on, the walk is on open heath and light woodland, passing Putney Vale, Robins Hoods Gate and into Richmond park where we visit, Isabella Plantation, King Henrys Mound and onto the Thames Path at Richmond. There are toilets along the way, no wobbly stiles and the walk is virtually mud free.
Wear suitable clothing for the time of year and bring a packed lunch.
Travel: Outbound take the Northern Line to Colliers Wood Underground Station (Approx. 40 minutes from Euston Station)
