This is a linear walk following a pilgrimage route of monks taking St Cuthbert's body (corse) to escape Viking attack.
Starting in Chester-le-Street, we follow the path alongside the river Wear and then through fields to Great Lumley and Finchale Priory (home of the 12-century pilgrim and hermit, St Godric). From Finchale the path passes Frankland prison then through fields to rejoin the riverside into Durham - with views of the castle and Durham Cathedral.
The return to Chester-le-Street is by public transport.
